"Residents were able to place fallen limbs at the curb for collection by the Township.” “The tub grinder was a necessity following the aftermath of Tropical Storm Lee and after several ice storms that caused a staggering amount of damage to trees," Marc Moyer, Chairman of the Board of Supervisors, said. The grinder has been a valued asset during recovery clean-up efforts following weather related disasters, ridding roadways and properties of storm-related wood debris. It is estimated that 20-30 thousand cubic yards of brush are put through the grinder each year making 5-10 thousand yards of mulch. Trees and limbs throughout the Township are collected and brought to the Recycling Center by the Department of Public Works crews and residents and ground into mulch made available to residents at no charge. The tub grinder is essential to the services that are provided by Derry Township.
The new tub grinder replaces a 22-year-old grinder that served the Township well beyond its life expectancy.
Notification was received yesterday from the Department of Environmental Protection that Derry Township was awarded a $240,345 grant that was applied for to replace the tub grinder at the Recycling Center.
